Marcus Wedman lives in Drachten (in the north of the Netherlands) and has been working with spray paint for over 25 years. He was filled with a passion for drawing and painting, and his friends, who were active in the graffiti art scene, introduced him to spray paint. He discovered that graffiti goes beyond just writing profanity on walls. In fact, good graffiti can prevent vandalism.
Aside from the spray can, he also discovered the airbrush, a small paint gun that achieved the same results as the spray can, on a smaller scale. Combining these two techniques resulted in photorealistic work.
After his higher vocational study Art & Design at Noordelijke Hogeschool in Leeuwarden, Marcus Wedman got a job as a full-time graphic designer/desktop publisher in the renowned advertising agency Norddesign in Drachten. He uses the experience he gained being a graphic designer for the advertising agency, in his graffiti expressions. But, conversely, his knowledge of typography, geometry, and colors, which he gained from the graffiti scene, also serves him well in the graphic design industry.
Since July 2013, he completely independently works as a special painter and graphic designer. Nowadays, he is looking for new techniques in his workshop, that, combined with the spray can, airbrush and paintbrush result in surprising images. The result is a combination of graffiti, photorealism and expressive extravagances.
